2,15-Hexadecanedione is a dehydrated hydrocarbon with a gaseous carbon-carbon bond. It is used in organic synthesis as a reducing agent and chlorinating agent. 2,15-Hexadecanedione is also used to reduce the chloro group on an organic molecule to make it more reactive. 2,15-Hexadecanedione can be used in the hydrogenation of alkenes and alkynes or as a diketone reductant in reactions involving magnesium. The reaction time for 2,15-hexadecanedione is around 60 minutes at room temperature.
